When iconic Six Nations eatery Burger Barn announced a rebuild was underway after it was destroyed by arson last year, fans of the beloved burger joint had a question — would it look the same?
Early signs point to yes.
Owners Jason and Celeste Hill recently released a photo on social media showing the exterior walls of the new restaurant on Fourth Line looking quite similar to its distinctive barn-shaped predecessor.
“The ultimate comeback story starts now,” the Hills said on Facebook.
“This major milestone marks the physical step in bringing our beloved restaurant back to life after we were forced to close due to a devastating arson fire. The sounds of construction equipment signal a triumphant new chapter for our business and the amazing customer base that has supported us through this challenge.”
That challenge began in January 2025, when the front entrance of the renowned restaurant — featured in a 2013 episode of the Food Network hit “You Gotta Eat Here” — was damaged by gunfire.
A few days later, Burger Barn burned down in what police and the Office of the Fire Marshal determined was a case of arson.
As the fire-ravaged building smouldered, the Hills promised to resurrect their restaurant.
In the meantime, they set up a food truck on the property that is back for its second summer, open Thursday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Along with satisfying the public’s craving for Burger Barn’s signature burgers and chicken sandwiches, the food truck has helped keep some staff on the payroll during the rebuild.
“We’ve managed to retain some key employees with it running,” the Hills said.
While there is no opening date for the new restaurant, Burger Barn’s owners say the encouragement from the public is motivating their efforts to rebuild.
“Our goal remains clear: to return stronger than ever and continue serving our legendary homemade burgers, wings, fresh fries, shakes and desserts,” they said.
“We are deeply grateful for the patience and love you all have shown us, and we are working hard to fire up the grills as quickly as possible.”
Fire investigation nearing end
A spokesperson for the Office of the Fire Marshal told The Spectator the agency’s final report on the fire investigation is still under review.
Fire investigators “work closely with local fire services, police, and other relevant agencies and ministries to gather and analyze evidence and information,” Sean Driscoll said.
That analysis can include lab tests that can cause delays, he added.
The fire marshal has determined the fire started on the main floor, but the exact location and cause of the fire have not been released.
There was no update from Six Nations Police on the arson and shooting investigations.
