National Volunteer Week:: The Grande Prairie Regional Association of Volunteer Organizations asked council for $5,000 to help cover the costs of booths for their members at the Grande Prairie Chamber of Commerce business week celebration, radio advertising as well as member supplies.
Council passed a motion of no action toward the request but then made a motion for $5,000 in advertising to be used to recognize National Volunteer Week in collaboration with Family and Community Support Services(FCSS) events being planned.
Coun. Karen Rosvold said it would be more beneficial for the county to use the funds to acknowledge volunteers and organizations.
The association says they have 90 members and 15 of which are in the county.
An additional request to the City of Grande Prairie is being made for $5,000 to help cover costs from the association.
The association believes that 60 booths will cost about $12,000, radio advertisements $6,000, and supplies at about $2,000.
