The 2022 Richmond Corner Antique Tractor Pull attracted 108 tractors in a dozen classes over the weekend of Aug. 26 to 28, but the annual event almost didn’t happen.

Only days before the popular event, organizers discovered the theft of the Richmond Corner Rec Council’s scales, without which the pull couldn’t happen.

Kristy McCormack, one of the veteran organizers of the popular event, said the discovery of the scale theft put the entire event in jeopardy. She credited the efforts of the Carleton County and the pull communities for saving the day and the 2002 event.

“Some pretty amazing people came forward,” she said

McCormack said a Quebec-based organization stepped up to provide Richmond Corner with the needed scales and a local volunteer agreed to travel there to pick it up.

The scales arrived on site for the Friday start time, but Mother Nature had other ideas. Heavy rain postponed Friday night’s planned parade and other events. The parade was held Saturday, as great weather greeted long days of tractor pulls on Saturday and Sunday.

The annual antique tractor pull is more than a sporting event. It’s an important social event and allows proud tractor owners to showcase their hard-working, well-maintained machines from another era.

Pullers arrived from local communities and as far away as Prince Edward Island.

The Richmond Corner Antique Tractor Pull is both a community and family event. Each year, new generations from the many participating farm families join the fun.

This year, event organizers presented the Youngest Puller Award to Kaden Moorcroft in memory of Evan Graham of Hartford, who perished in an accident in July 2020. The 14-year-old was an active and popular member of the area’s agriculture community

Richmond Corner Recreation Council president Ernie Atkinson also presented Evan’s parents, Stacey and Jeremy Graham, and grandfather Wayne Graham with the $490 in 50-50 proceeds to support the Evan Graham Memorial Scholarship Fund.
