Assiniboine College is introducing a series of short-term construction trades courses at its Parkland campus in Dauphin this fall, offering flexible training for people interested in home improvement projects or exploring careers in the skilled trades.
The new modular program begins Oct. 5 and is divided into five standalone, hands-on courses, each running about three weeks. Students can enrol in a single course or combine multiple offerings to build a broader range of practical construction skills.
The courses cover drywall installation and finishing, painting selection and application, interior finishing, exterior finishing and concrete forming.
Jim DeGraeve, Acting Dean of Trades at Assiniboine College, said the courses are intended to provide an accessible entry point for people looking to gain practical experience without committing to a longer program.
“These courses offer a flexible way for people to gain practical, hands-on experience in specific areas of construction,” DeGraeve said. “We are excited to offer these programs as an entry point, or as a way for potential students to gain relevant industry knowledge that they can look to build on in their careers or at home.”
The college said the modular format is designed to let learners tailor their training to their own interests and goals, whether they are pursuing a new hobby, tackling home renovation projects or preparing for employment in the construction industry.
